Nichol In Her Studio
Nichol's Home and Studio Grounds
The Smithsonian Library describes Tunnel books or peep shows as a series of cut-paper panels placed one behind the other, creating the illusion of depth and perspective. Often, these are engineered like an accordion, with the two boards pulling apart and the illustrated panels lined up and viewed through a front peep-hole or viewer. This type of book dates from the mid-18th century and was inspired by theatrical stage sets. Throughout history, tunnel books have often been used to commemorate certain events. We are commemorating this seasoned artist’s 70 years of life and creation.
We hope Nichol’s tunnel book of her in the studio and another of her home and studio grounds at night bring you a sense of child like fun while putting it together and a smile upon seeing Nichol’s world from two unique perspectives.
