God's Will

"This is a short but incredibly personal series titled, “God’s Will.” It came from the national conversations around immigration and how those conversations made me feel. I find it interesting how such a complex conversation is often boiled down into two main ideas.  Immigrants in any form are good, or immigrants in any form are bad.  More strikingly, people driving these conversations often invoke the will of God to support their opposing beliefs. Which truly is God’s Will?

I am “those people”

While I explore this series without taking a personal political point of view, I do ask, "How can humans be illegal?”  The legal process for amnesty in this country requires entry on the soil of the United States.  Whether that be the US Embassy in a partner country or the continental Unites States, itself.  It is physically and more importantly, legally impossible to seek amnesty and commit a crime of existence at the same time.

In this series, the main piece is my green card photo with my current day fear of threatened deportation. Three of the  six additional paintings have quotes from right wing US Congress people, the remaining three are quotes from left wing pop culture references, all the context of God's will."     -NichoL
